Rhena Itesi

Rhena Itesi, 22 y/o Center for the NU Lady Bulldogs

When did you start playing basketball?
I started playing when I was 13.

What inspired you to play basketball?
My big brother, he’s playing until now. He was my inspiration and I knew that I would be tall, so that’s why I chose to play basketball.

What is the most difficult part about being a Center?
Oh my god! Especially on defense, I feel like the whole team just gives you the charge of the team. So on defense, everybody just trust you, everybody knows that you’re the taller there, you got to be there for the team, that’s why I find it really difficult.

What is your favorite thing about being a Center?
I have an advantage, my height, so every time they pass me that ball, I just have to keep it up and don’t put down the ball so I can easily make my basket or they will foul me.

Who is your basketball idol?
Candace Parker, WNBA LA Team.

What is your best advice for new basketball players?
They just have to work hard. They have to be ready. Everybody makes mistakes, but they have to put in their mind that they can be the best and achieve their goals.

What is the most challenging part of being a student athlete?
Ohh that’s really difficult because like today, I have an exam, but I just have to give an excuse letter because I have to be here also, I have a game. So you have to manage the school and basketball. I have practice every morning, after my practice I have to go to class by ten. It’s really difficult, but I have no choice, it’s the life that I have chosen.

What is your favorite class/subject?
I have one subject that I really like with my favorite professor also, Research.

Where is your favorite place to relax?
The swimming pool.

What is your favorite food?
I like beef, I’ve been living in the Philippines for 5 years, Bulalo is my favorite.
