Player Interview – Christopher Cistina

Christopher Cistina

Christopher Cistina, 19 y/o Open Spiker for the CSJL Knights

When did you start playing volleyball?
Actually, I started playing volleyball when I was in 2nd year highschool.

What inspired you to play volleyball?
My brother, sya po yung nagsimula magturo sakin ng volleyball. Since nakitaan nya po ako ng potential na pwede ako magvolleyball, kasi dati po nung childhood ko, parang wala akong sport, plain life lang ako, so sabi ng kuya ko “kailangan may sport ka”, ayun, sya yung nag influence sakin to play volleyball.

What is the most difficult part of being an open spiker?
I think yung nag work hard ako sa defense talaga, kasi as an open spiker, hindi ka lang puro attacks and blocks, kailangan mo din floor defense at the back. So yun yung pinagtrabahuhan ko actually.

What is your favorite thing about being an open spiker?
I think yung pressure na sayo lagi ibibigay yung bola kapag break ball or ikaw yung isa sa inaasahan na makapatay ng bola sa counter attack.

Who is your volleyball idol?
Since highschool ang idol ko po is babae actually, si Ara Galang ng La Salle. Hindi sya malakas pero masasabi ko na magaling sya. Sya yung idol ko kasi humble lang sya, tahimik.

What is your best advice for new volleyball players?
Personally, yung volleyball is one of naging instrument or weapon ko para makuha ko yung dreams ko and goals sa buhay na gusto kong makapag aral sa magandang school, makapagtapos sa isang magandang school, na university sa Manila, kasi taga Cavite ako. So i pushed myself na gusto ko ga-graduate ako sa Manila, sa university, so ako, nag work hard ako.

What is the most challenging part of being a student athlete?
Balance, time management sa studies and sa training. Kasi ako, minsan yung acads ko nagiging coflict sa training so nahihirapan kami mga student athlete na ma-cope up both training and acads. Pero with proper time management naman, we can handle kasi ako na-immune na din sa training tapos pasok. Tas kapag kunwari nawala yung training dun sa habit mo, parang nawawala yung katawan mo sa kondisyon. Hinahanap-hanap mo yung volleyball. So yung most challenging part is to excel both sa training and acads.

What is your favorite class?
About science.

Where is your favorite place to relax?
Coffee shop kasi I’m a coffee lover.

What is your favorite food?
Coffee and milk tea. Para sakin yun yung comfort food ko, parang nare-relax buong katawan ko.
