#10 Yani Espiritu, 20 y/o Middle Blocker of San Beda College

1. When did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing volleyball when I was grade 5. And then I stopped, and then I played again when I was in 3rd year high school. But I learned proper volleyball when I was in 1st year college.

2. What inspired you to play volleyball?
My friends mainly because they play volleyball and I wanted to join them so I wanted to learn as well. And then I ended up here at San Beda.

3. What is the most difficult part of being a middle blocker?
Most difficult part being a middle blocker would be reading the set of the setter like where is she gonna take the ball, where is she gonna set it. You have to read yung setter kung saan nya dadalhin yung bola para alam mo kung saan yung block mo, kung sino iba-block mo.

4. What is your favorite thing about being a middle blocker?
Favorite thing would be I don’t have to receive. I don’t have to stay there very long at the back to defend the floor.

5. Who is your volleyball idol?
My volleyball idol is Cesca Racraquin.

6. What is your best advice for new volleyball players?
Motivation. That’s all you need for start and then everything comes specially when you have a good coach.

7. What is the most challenging part of being a student athlete?
That would be time management at tsaka andun din yung “ah, tinatamad na ko pumasok kasi yung training namin nakakapagod, ganyan..ganyan..”, that’s the most difficult part, yung katamaran, you have to get through that.

8. What is your favorite class?
I guess my major subjects because that’s what helped me.

9. Where is your favorite place to relax?
Bed, oh my god! I love my bed!

10. What is your favorite food?
Favorite food is baked tahong with melted cheese on top.
