Iona Yongco

#4 Iona Yongco, 24 y/o Setter of Emilio Aguinaldo College

1. When did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing when I was in Elementary pero ano lang sya, parang laro laro lang sa labas, parang ganon lang. So I started playing na sa league talaga is 3rd year highschool. Yun, dun ako nagstart, 3rd year, tas 4th year tas up to college.

2. What inspired you to play volleyball?

3. What is the most difficult part of being a setter?
Being a setter para sakin is the hardest part kasi sya yung heart of the team, heart of the game. Sya yung play maker sabi nga nila. So parang pag hindi ka gumana so hindi din gagana yung spiker mo, hindi din gagana yung receiver mo. Lahat hindi gagana, so parang dapat consistent as a setter.

4. What is your favorite thing about being a setter?
Actually hindi talaga ako setter before, I’m a spiker before tapos kinonvert lang ako as a setter sa EAC so nagustuhan ko sya kasi nga sabi ko nga kanina na play maker so heart of the game, heart of the team parang ganun, so parang nasa’yo yung decision kung anong mangyayari sa bola na ibibigay mo.

5. Who is your volleyball idol?
Actually, usually mga idols ko setters talaga like Jia Morado, Gizelle Sy and Kim Fajardo pero aside from that idol ko yung ate ko, si Ate Iya so kasi sobrang daming struggle na yung dumating sa kanya so nalampasan nya lahat yun so naging idol ko talaga sya sa mga ganung part.

6. What is your best advice for new volleyball players?
Sa mga aspiring volleyball players, don’t give up. Kaya naman nila lahat basta ibibigay lang nila yung buong puso nila sa game or sa training as a volleyball player. Tapos kailangan fully hearted e, fully hearted talaga kapag maglalaro ka. Tsaka number 1 is discipline, like sa mga bisyo syempre as volleyball player kailangan disiplinado ka sa mga oras sa training, maraming aspects of discipline, dapat sundin nila yun.

7. What is the most challenging part of being a student athlete?
Actually everyday challenging part e, like gigising ka ng maaga for training tas right after training papasok ka sa school so minsan nakakaantok sa klase, syempre, automatic na yun pero kailangan mong i-manage e kasi hindi ka lang naman athlete, student ka rin, so kailangan mo rin matapos ng pag-aaral kasi hindi lang naman sa pagiging athlete matatapos yung buhay mo, so, magandang may learnings ka rin, may education ka din.

8. What is your favorite class?
Laboratory class, gusto ko magluto e, so kaya HRM kinuha ko, so favorite class ko yun.

9. Where is your favorite place to relax?
Dorm, dorm talaga. As in dorm, everytime na after training pag wala akong class, gusto ko derecho na uwi ng dorm tas pahinga na.

10. What is your favorite food?
Comfort foods ko like fries, pop corn..yan yung mga comfort foods ko, siguro yan na rin yung favorite food ko.
